Check the news pages for the very latest parts information CAR REVIEWThe Alfa Romeo GT coupe is every inch a proper Alfa Romeo and although slightly overshadowed by the newer Brera, it's still a great car. Stunningly good looking with a great interior to match. Under the bonnet some excellent engines choices, including a diesel. The Alfa Romeo GT is great value for money on the used market. EB Spares offers a full range of parts to cover repairs, replacements, service items and 'upgrades'. Charisma is much in abundance for the enthusiast and it's been pretty reliable so far - not always been the case all for Alfa Romeos. Two petrol engine are offered: a 165bhp 2.0-litre and a 240bhp 3.2-litre V6. Both units provide plenty of performance, but we'd still opt for the 148bhp 1.9-litre turbodiesel - it's smooth, punchy and delivers effortless pace. A few years ago a diesel would have been out of place in a slick-looking coupe like the GT, but it's the best all-rounder in this line-up. The 150bhp unit pulls strongly, is refined and will cruise with ease while returning around 45mpg in everyday driving. Of course no Alfa model would be complete without a V6 and the 3.2-litre engine is superb. It sounds great and is the better of the two petrols to drive, but it's thirsty - be prepared for around 22mpg. Sadly this engine was phased out at the start of 2008. Being a 'drivers' car, the GT isn't the most enjoyable or easiest car in this class to drive in town. The steering is rather vague and comfy. It is best when cruising, which it does very well. Around town, a larger turning circle makes parking and three-point turns a annoying. But you are a driver and should be up to these challanges! Here you will notice the slightly heavy steering. The Q2 system offered with the diesel engine is a limited-slip differential which makes for a more satisfying drive, especially in slippery conditions, without the added weight and complexity of four-wheel a drive system. It helps to improve traction on the front-wheel driven GT, finding more grip when accelerating from stationary and through corners, rather than simply wheel spinning or using the traction and stability control system to cut the power when grip is lost. The GT is surprisingly spacious for a coupe, with space in the back for two adults - a trick that most other coupes in this class cannot match. At speed, it's pretty quiet, although the roar of the V6 can be heard when desired. Ride quality is good, soaking up the lumps and bumps without rolling excessively in corners or feeling too harsh over bumps. Unlike Alfa's earlier coupé, the GTV, the GT has a more decent boot and is a far more practical proposition. And while it might look like only a small saloon car boot aperture, in reality the whole rear opens up as a hatchback. Split folding rear seats give even greater luggage space. All models are well equipped including dual-zone climate control, trip computer and alloy wheels. The now discontinued V6 version gets leather as standard, this is an option on other models. The GT has not been crash tested by Euro NCAP, but there are six airbags and all the expected safety features including traction control and a fire prevention system. THE GT has an alarm, immobiliser, plus deadlocks to protect it from unwanted attention. The cabin is Alfa Romeo at its best and full of Italian flair. It's comfortable place to be and has that Alfa Romeo feel good factor putting it ahead of others. The leather seats are impeccably finished and little touches - like the Italian on the dials (the words for the petrol gauge, revs, speed etc) makes the car, driver and passangers feel special. There's a good driving position with plenty of adjustment in the seat and steering wheel. All the controls are well within reach and generally easy to operate and a good match for any quality german car.
